From the Executive Director
|
Almost fifteen years ago following one of our performances, a man who had suffered a heart attack and lost his condo and car due to not having health insurance, told me that if it were not for our programs and the public library he would have gone crazy. I got confirmation, first hand, that one of the contributions Grand Performances makes – in fact a contribution all of us involved in the arts make – is helping keep our society from going crazy.
We currently have America’s most diverse audience, and as we enter our 21st season, we look forward to involving even more Angelenos in the arts. Grand Performances is a catalyst for audiences to gain a better understanding of the incredible diversity that makes up our world and for helping people discover ways that the arts can contribute to making our City and our Society more sane and more civil.
I hope those of you picking up a Grand Performances brochure for the first time will pick at least two performances this summer – one of an artist or art form that you already know and love, and one featuring an artist or art form totally new to you. There cannot be a better place to introduce yourself to something “new” in the arts than Grand Performances’ free summer series. And I hope that those of you who have been sharing this exciting “ride” will be back for another thrilling season.
Lastly, I must appeal to all of you who are able to become regular donors to Grand Performances. Grand Performances belongs to all of Los Angeles and it needs your contributions for this non-profit organization to continue to set a national standard for the presentation of free performances to the entire community. Your support enables our program to bring in the wealth of artists that you see on this summer’s schedule. Your support enables us to get information about these programs to people living in every neighborhood of Los Angeles. And your support contributes to a more sane and more civil Los Angeles.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the summer,
