If you could mix liberal doses of American and British big band/dance hall music, then blend with chanson, sparkling 80s British pop and 60s sweeping film score sounds, what would you get? The Real Tuesday Weld. This U.K. group, led by London’s Royal Academy of Art alum Stephen Coates, has created its own unique style, called “antique beat.” The New Yorker describes the sound as akin to “…an English-speaking Serge Gainsbourg rolling around Tin Pan Alley with synthesizer in hand.” Los Angeles-based Lal Meri, led by two-time Grammy-nominated producer/songwriter/remixer Carmen Rizzo opens the evening with its blend of jazz, East-Indian vocals, trip hop with world music, and electronica.
This event will be hosted by KCRW's Nic Harcourt.
