Best of 2023: Digital

GP’s mission is to provide “free access to the global performing arts” and that commitment extends beyond just our physical home at California Plaza. Yes, all of concerts are free to attend in-person, but we also want to make sure we are providing opportunities to experience GP for those unable to make it to DTLA.

For GP, social media is not just a marketing tool to promote our concerts, but a platform to broaden access to the arts and more profoundly fulfil our mission. All of GP’s concerts are live-streamed on YouTube, and then rebroadcast in the archive for on-demand viewing worldwide. We are currently in the process of building a full database of 40 years of GP concerts, but for now, the last 3 years are available on YouTube.

In addition to YouTube, we stream on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, though the quality of the YouTube stream is much better.

In total, across all platforms, it was a record-breaking year:

  • 118,300 followers across all channels

  • 3 million views during the 2023 season

Our biggest areas of growth included:

  • 16,500 new subscribers to our GP newsletter (+68% since last year)

  • 684k Instagram impressions (+784% vs. last year)

  • 154k YouTube views (+305% vs. last year) and +300% subscriber growth.

Grand Performances 2023

We also went viral on TikTok, with one of our Son Rompe Pera videos earning a jaw dropping 1.3 million views alone. This helped us gain +11.6k new followers too! That season opening show was absolute fire, but even we were blown away by the surprise success of that post.
