Grand Performances and the Colburn School present a program that reframes Expanding the Canon around connection rather than obscurity, pairing underrepresented composers with familiar canonical works to reveal lines of influence, exchange, and shared musical language. This approach allows audiences to encounter new voices through recognizable musical entry points while preserving thematic depth. This includes exploring how European composers absorbed musical ideas shaped by African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latin American traditions
