super rail band and amadou & mariam

  • Grand Performances 350 South Grand Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90071 United States (map)

Last year's performance on the Water-stage was the first North American tour in over a decade of the legendary Super Rail Band. The response from fans that saw them was so overwhelming that a return was inevitable. Stalwart leader Djelimady Tounkara, the greatest living African guitarist, will be on hand to play the incredibly beautiful pop arrangements of Manding classics. Also appearing on stage is Amadou & Mariam Their personal journey is a unique story of love and success. The Malian couple met and fell in love at the Institute for the Young Blind of Mall, and have been together ever since. Their music distills electric blues, reggae, 70s pop, Cuban son, and traditional Malian rhythms into a sound that is unmistakably their own. Amadou is the songwriter and backing vocals, but it is Miriam's incredible voice that makes the compositions come alive. The harmonic convergence of both these artists is something to be experienced.
