In a far place, many light years in space there is a planet called MettaSun - one of the many planets of possibility that has been birthed from the music of Sun RA. Here love, peace, and joy abound, the bright technicolor skies welcome all who visit, The Voices of Creation sing each day from the clouds and fill the soft pink and magenta skies with the sound of harmonic living.

Sun Ra, Big Brother Almighty left on a spaceship and departed from his body in May of 1993, leaving behind his messages of interstellar introspection and the cosmic possibilities within sound, inspiring many to explore the sonic landscapes within themselves; proving that space indeed is the place where there is enough room for us all.

Welcome to MettaSun

feat. Maia the Artiste

In June of 2025, Jimetta Rose was struck by an idea; she wanted to make a solo project based around the music of Sun Ra. She’d been covering certain Sun Ra songs around LA whenever she was asked to perform a solo set or sit in on a jam, and she was suddenly confident that she could create a project that would be as much of a tribute to one of her biggest inspirations as it is a proclamation to her own growth as an artist. For a month they met up weekly to rehearse and plan out arrangements, then in August 2025 the real work of making an album began. Jimetta went into the studio with Ahmad Dubose Dawson on percussion, Wayne Matthews on drums, Curtis Crump on piano and sax, Michael Alvidrez on bass, and her special featured guest Maia the Artiste on harp, flute, and vibraphone. The body of music recorded in those sessions is now being released to the world as “MettaSun” on June 20th by the Nightdreamer label.
